Prezi Presentation

WOW!!!  I think this software was a little difficult to get used to but I managed to create my presentation on plants!  I think are is one place where's it upside down but I could not figure out how to turn it right side up!  I'll have to keep working on this.  This would be so cool to do an end of the year picture show with for my students.

Videos in the Classroom

Here are two videos that I found about using Ipods in Education.  I have a set of 5 Ipods in my classroom that I use to differentiate spelling words and math problems with my higher and lower level students. The students really love to use them and I've found that after the inital use of them, the students' score did improve.

Social Bookmarking

Today I am home sick from work so I am using this downtime to catch up on my graduate school work.  I am working on using Delicious, a social booking website.  I have never used this website before, however I have used LiveBinder which I think is basically the same concept.

Here is my Delicious website

Wiki

WOW! I am feeling completely overwhelmed with learning about Wikis.  I have never used one before today.  I just set up my wiki page at wikispaces and am trying to learn how to use it.  Today I received several request to join other wiki pages from members in my group so hopefully we can all work together to learn or if someone out there knows more about wikis I would appreciate any tips.

Here's the link to my wiki.

Orton Gillingham Training

The first grade team at my school has the opportunity to attend a training on Orton Gillingham phonics.  I am very excited about this opportunity.  If anyone out there has ever used this program, I would appreciate any input.  Here's the website we received to learn more about the program.

Blogging in the classroom

After doing some research and talking with my other teacher friends that use blogs in their classroom, they directed me to watch this video on TeacherTube by the user Rachelboyd that really sums up the pros of using a blog. After watching this video, I'm really going to try to incorporate blogging into my first grade classroom with the students.

 Enjoy!

Snow Day

This is the second snow day for Rowan Salisbury Schools and I have learned that we will make one of these days up on a Saturday!  Exciting!

I teach first grade so using a blog with them is not feasible until sometime during the 3rd or 4th quarter, however it would be useful with parents.  Our school requires us to keep an updated schoolnotes page through Edgate and this has a blog associated with it.  I have just recently started using this feature to communicate with my parents.  It is a very simple blog and I am not sure if it allows photos or videos to be published.  I think creating a class blog would be a great way to let students write about what they are learning or posting pictures from field trips for parents to see.  However, I would have to figure out a way for it to be invitation only or require a password to protect the identity of the students.  The parents really like the website to keep up with homework and daily lessons.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!  I created this blog for EDTC 6070.  I am taking this class spring semester 2011 at ECU.  I can hardly believe that it's 2011.  My parents were right...time moves faster and faster the older you get.
